Practicing Your Poetry... All Year

Writing and poetry is something that I'm going to step up this year.
I created this to help me focus on various poetry styles each month or any month depending on how things go ;)

I chose 6 basic poetry types and then created a poster page and 10 workmats for each type... basically a page for each month of the school year.
That's 60 opportunities... wow... I'll have a class of poets ;)
...actually... I just hope to have happy writers! smile
Anyone else looking to step up their poetry?
If so, leave a comment below and I'll give away 2 copies tonight ;)

Congratulations Mrs. Shepherd and A. Smith!!

I've never tried poetry with my kids. This could be a fun addition to our writing station :)

My kids really enjoyed poetry last year but I only managed to cover a couple acrostic and limerick creations. Hopefully with these we'll cover a whole load more and maybe publish our own poetry book! What a great resource!

I AM going to do poetry this year because I know I needed 'to step up' this part of my curriculum! I actually added it to my center choices...BUT I don't have any resources and this looks perfect to get me started. I love your creativity! Thank you!

After teaching 4th grade for 17 years I'm moving to 2nd grade and couldn't be more excited! I was hoping to include poetry as part of my daily 5 rotation, but hadn't found anything yet. Your poetry unit is the perfect fit for me. Thanks for creating such a wonderful resource.

Poetry is often overlooked. I would like to introduce my students to the various types of poetry and get them writing more throughout the year.

I've always had trouble teaching poetry to my students, I find we always focus on other forms of writing. I think these could be really helpful!

I look forward to seeing some follow up posts, showing what your students create using the templates.

I'd love to win this!

I've always wanted to do poetry with my second graders and haven't had a chance. Your unit looks very helpful .

Looking to do the same! I feel like poetry always gets pushed to the side. Might be too late for the giveaway though, so it's on my wish list. :) gsmithteach@gmail.com
