New Years FUN & freebie

We go back to school for Thursday and Friday only... SiLlY!!

I'm sure I won't have a whole class for those 2 days, so we are planning on celebrating the New Year with a day of rotations reviewing skills we've previously learned.

There are 14 stations including contractions, story problems, word work, telling time, friendly letter, graphing, money, addition, greater than, less than, ABC Order, patterned art, parts of a book, and setting resolutions.

This file contains a student booklet for kids to complete all their work in and cut down on paper.  It is also black and white clipart.  I copied each station on a different color card stock to help with organization.

I also have a few winter math game boards here for your kiddos!!

Grateful for Cute Clipart

... just completing my first day of Winter Break.
It was delightful and relaxing.

My neighbor stopped by to visit and mentioned how cute my decorations were (referring to my picture frames around the family room).  I was once again reminded how grateful I am for my new, talented blogging friends.  All of my pictures were made with Krista's clipart from Creative Clips. They make for a bit of colorful cheer around the house and an easy replacement in my 5x7s. I'm a bit late, but if you can use a little color... just right click and print ;)

Preparing for Polar Express Day

After traveling around the world (through literature) we are preparing to return to the USA tomorrow via the Polar Express.  The kids get so excited for this day.
The past 5 years, my mom and I have knitted hats for the kids, however, this year...  Mrs. Evans purchased them ...(guilt!)  They are really cute and saved a ton of time and stress.  Since the kids are warm and cozy with their hats... we also serve cocoa and cookies while they watch the show and wear their bells.
I'll post more pictures asap.
2 more days until Winter Break ;)

Remembering Sandy Hook

As educators, we remember and honor our fallen colleagues and their students from Sandy Hook School.  We honor them each day in our classrooms in which we continue their dream of teaching our children.  We honor their memory with our service.  Join with teachers everywhere in committing random acts of kindness to show our love for Sandy Hook.

The people of Newtown are asking that everyone commit random acts of kindness on December 14th in honor of the teachers and students.  The blogging community is coming together to remember Sandy Hook by spreading their message and encouraging others to commit random acts of kindness.

Have you ever paid for the car behind you in a drive-through?
It's a delightful way to surprise not only them, but the cashier too.
Try it with me this weekend... it's a favorite R.A.K. I enjoy doing.
Spread the holiday cheer and Diet Cokes ;)

Deck the Halls Linky Party

These task cards have been a life saver.  I have a handful of students that are SPOT ON!
Their work is accurate, nice and done quickly.  They are also the type of personalities that LOVE an extra piece of work/fun.  I copied only 1 of each set ( 12 sets in all), put them on a silver ring and hung them on the wall. These 7 kids have the student booklet to record their answers and now independently complete the tasks.  I had a few students ask, "Teacher, how do I get one of those booklets?"
Another student mentioned to his neighbor on another occasion... "I'm going to start working harder so I can get one of those booklets, too!" :)

I don't hide the fact that I LOVE mathematics.
I didn't as a child, but as an adult... somehow I learned to embrace it.
This little do-dad is just that... a fun spin on the 12 Days of Christmas song only with a mathematics spin.  This file includes a student booklet and charts for group singing.

Daily 5 has changed my Reading, Writing, Word Work instruction!  I love it!  My word work consists of 12 literacy centers that the kids must get through each month.  ABC Order, Synonyms, Antonyms, Compound Words, Prefix, Suffix, Contraction... etc.  We have mini lessons during our "regrouping periods" of Daily 5, but by January, they are on their own.  This file contains a hands on activity and assessment for each of the 12 areas.  January - June include a monthly booklet for students to complete during their WORD WORK choice.

Happy Holidays friends!!
