Old Lady Swallowed a Bat Day

We had a day of the Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat ... we broke the kiddos up into 9 small groups and then rotated them through the different stations.  I broke up the assignment centers with coloring and creating a mobile at 2 of the stations.  The kids had a great day and it seemed we accomplished and reviewed many skills.
Now we are heading off to the pumpkin patch with the family :)

Halloween Graphing Freebie

I've mentioned it many times... I love the holidays. Last year I posted this Halloween fruit snack graphing... and last night I was out running  errands and saw the same Betty Crocker box available... yippee!!!
SO... If you live near a Sam's Club (I'm sure it's little sister store... Walmart, too) grab yourself a box of Betty Crocker Halloween Fruit Snacks and download a copy. We can all stash it in our cabinets until the goblins, witches and bats begin to fly!!

1 Word Family a Week

I was asked by a fellow blogger and teacher how I organize, display and use my word family units... so ... in a nut shell... I keep it very simple!!
My storage is a 3" purple binder with sheet protectors inside.
Each word family file is stored in 1 sheet protector:
yep... that is 8 activity pages in 1 protector...
1- word cards,
2- word search,
3- sentences,
4- partner spinner,
5- boxes in a family,
6- cut & spell,
7- quiz,
8- book list
I took pictures of last week's word family unit as we completed them. My small easel houses the word cards and literature that we read each day.
Following the story (books with -up chunk in them) and reading through the word cards... we 1 complete activity sheet page a day.
On Friday, we take a quick quiz that I dictate to the kiddos.
As we continue to build stamina and tasks in our Daily 5... we do these activities as a whole group. Creating sentences together... choosing words to color in, use them in a sentences, using spinners and competing teacher vs. students or students vs. students, etc. I'm looking forward to using them in Word Work now that the kids are very familiar with them.  I hope this helps to answer questions and offer ideas.  I love to keep things simple for me and fun for my students.

I have the files listed as single files or sets depending on your needs.
I also have a couple of units for free to try them out with your class.

Halloween Graphing

What is Your Favorite Halloween Costume?
We did a little Halloween graphing before we left for a long, beautiful
fall break.  The kids loved it... I guess we won't have any dragons or Super Heroes this year on October 31st ;)

There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Bat

This time around instead of creating the Old Lady with the brown bag... my daughter created a mobile using an empty TP roll... she was so proud and excited to hang it in her room ;)

Fire Safety Gameboard Freebie

Even and Odd Fire Safety themed game board
Fire Safety is always a great reminder for all of us to plan ahead (and check those darn batteries in the smoke detectors ... they might be the most annoying sound EVER!! ;)
I love reading the fun literature that goes along with the topic, too.
The kiddos LOVED making their banners to take home and display.  I'll post pictures ASAP!
