Daily 5 Chapter 4

I apologize for this late post... my little family ran away to the lake for the week and my laptop had a bit of an accident... thank goodness for external hard drives :)

My Daily 5 book actually took the trip with me and brought home a few grains of sand (just a reminder of a fabulous time ;)  I am so excited about the fall and beginning the program in my classroom.

Chapter 4 was all about setting up Read to Self.  I plan to use the poster of 3 Ways to Read a Book the first day.  I want my students to build their confidence as a reader and actually refer to themselves as "readers".

I totally get the idea of creating an anchor chart with the kids.  I plan to do just that.  This is what I predict the future anchor chart might look like!
I am interested in seeing how quickly my students build stamina.  The Daily 5 is not taught in our first grade so this will be brand new for my kiddos (and me ;).  I plan to chart their stamina on the freebie I posted last week.

Can't wait for the following few chapters... due to vacations and getaways from the blog hosts... chapter 5 and 6 will be combined and discussed on July 23rd.  I'll be hosting that week... on time... I promise... no vacation these next couple of weeks... just moving to a new house!  Got to love summer!!!
Be sure to check out Lindsey's fun post on Chapter 4!

Thanks for the reminder to back up my files! Glad you were prepared.

Love your cute monkey posters! I had trouble downloading the Ch. 1 ones, however...and I would love everything to match. (Left a comment on that post, but you were probably on vacation by then.) Am I too late to get those?

Hi Suzy
Thanks for the comment... I will double check the link for the posters. Try it again on Monday... if not I will email them to you!

Looks like I am going to have to take you up on the email offer...still getting an error message. Sorry for the extra trouble, but they are so cute!

I make anchor charts so they are pre made but yet made along with the students. I like to print graphics that are cute and eye catching and make them large enough to glue on the anchor chart. I also like to print out my titles in a cute font and make them large too. This saves me from drawing during the lesson. I typically send them home with the kids when they no longer need them in class. They love the colorful ones with graphics.

Thanks you so much for the freebies! I have been doing a modified Daily 5 for the last few years. I am currently in a book study and we're on chapter 4 next week. I'm going to bring a copy to show the other teachers and direct them to your blog! Thanks!
