Silly Scarecrows... FREEBIE

I understand that many teachers can't celebrate the Halloween holiday with witches, goblins and ghosts! BOO! I'm so sorry... hopefully, scarecrows and black crows are allowed and Silly Scarecrows is just what you've been looking for. I've attached a Freebie similar to an activity found in the Silly Scarecrows packet called What's the Difference. Here's to another busy, productive week! :))

I love that my blogging friends are keeping me on my toes... Thank you for the requests to complete this unit early... maybe not as early as it should have been, however, it is PRE-November ;) Hope you and your students enjoy TURKEY DAY!! Thanks for your support!!

Fun with Phonograms

The past couple of years I have been focusing on phonograms with my little kiddos. I didn't appreciate the fact the phonogram knowledge is so helpful and important for young readers. It was a hole in my teaching and I'm so grateful for my ah-ha moment and opportunity to appreciate a new skill that all readers need to have. I created phonogram activities a couple years ago and I've been tweaking them ever since. They've now become sort of their own little program with a student booklet (that we recite every single day... takes only a couple of minutes and a great transition between activities ;) word cards, phonogram flashcards and an activity page for each day of the week. I've uploaded my 1st of 4 files to my Tpt store for you to check out.

I uploaded the 2nd of 4 files today!!

Fire Safety Week FREEBIE...

Stop Drop and Roll Game Board

Driving to work this morning I passed the city fire station and noticed their big red banner announcing FIRE SAFETY WEEK next week. I can't believe how quickly time is passing. I posted a fire safety unit at Tpt a couple of weeks ago. I'm prepared to display our fire safety rules next week with my banner... it turned out pretty fun. I created an even and odd game board with the fire safety spin for some extra practice. Hopefully our instruction and attention to this important week will increase awareness in our communities!

Pumpkin Math

In the past, we have planted pumpkins out in our outdoor classrooms... this year I've invited each of my students to bring in their own pumpkin. We'll do a little pumpkin place and comparison... then estimate, weigh, count, add, gut and carve ;) To change things up a bit, I copied these 2 pages back to back and then folded as a trifold. The kids thought that was 'cool'... "It's like a special program, Mrs. Evans," they said...

Have I mentioned how much I enjoy the Halloween/Fall season ;)

Word Families... My kids favorites

I have been SO happy with these word family activities, but more importantly, this week my kids said, "Yes! I love these!" when I passed them out. This is my fifth week, so 5th word family and the time and work was so worth it. Each day I read a book (from my class library) that has the word family in the title and we read through the words I've hung on my mini board. Monday, we do the page that uses 12 crayons to color in the boxes...we do this together as a class... then they flip it over and use a transparent spinner to partner play the game that I've copied on the back side.
Tuesday, we do the word search (I told the kids to use 12 different crayons on this page too... it makes it more fun ;) .

Wednesday, we write the 6 sentences.

Thursday we complete the cut and make words page and

Friday take the word family quiz.

I'd love to hear how you have used these pages in your classroom.

I have a few sets for free on Tpt... if you don't want to purchase others for $1... make your own... they are working and helping all readers.

Yesterday as we were taking the quiz (and I was walking around the room) I passed a little boy that I'm doing interventions on for resource testing and he was chunking the words sk...ill.................. sk...ill and he did really well. Sometime things are best when they're simple ;)
