This is not a real important post, however, last year my principal encouraged all of her teachers to create a student driven data program... meaning students are aware of their goals and see their progress as they work toward their goal. I was very happy with the results and noticed a greater responsibility among the students... so I thought I'd share her idea.
My 2nd grade team wanted to focus on 3 subjects areas. We chose math facts (PIG Math), Reading Folder (Light Steps; phonics, fluency, comprehension program) and AR testing.
I created a
one page sheet to go home each week. On Fridays, the kids color in their progress, take the report home to mom and dad to review with them and return to school Monday. The yearly goal is shown on the sheet, however, each term goal is represented with a star. I found that when everyone (teacher, student and parent) realized the goal and were held accountable to achieving the goal... everyone tried a little harder and made my job more enjoyable!
