Math Sale!!

My beautiful school and principal! It's a great place to spend my time!!

Wow! We made it through our first week of school and everything went terrific (besides the sore tootsies & early morning alarm clocks :). We had our Back to School Night last Thursday and had a pretty good turn out. I was so excited to hear many parents ask, "How can I help my student learn their math facts?" Practice them often and make it fun!!

This week I'm going to back up my words and place all of my math activities on sale at Tpt! I hope these activities allow more fun practice time for your students!!

Math Facts

Wahoo! It's been a busy, exciting, warm (97 degrees :() first couple days of school. My kiddos are darling! They are anxious to learn, full of energy and supported by great parents. I am so looking forward to getting them into a routine and jumping right into the curriculum fun!! We worked on our basic facts this afternoon and while the kids were playing Monkey Math with their partners... I heard a couple of them say, "I can't believe 2nd grade is so fun! We get to play games!" Her partner replied, "Yeah! but, we are learning about math!"
Just what I want... them to understand that math CAN be fun! I've posted Monkey Math on TpT if anyone is interested. There are 2 sets.... one is working with 1 die and working with facts 0-12. The other set is harder with 2 dice and facts from 0-18. The kids work on both addition and subtraction. I plan to send them home for homework also. I can't wait to over hear the response when homework becomes 'fun' ,too :)

Hope your first days have been successful also! Anyone else have sore feet after a summertime of flip flops! Aurg!!!

Clifford's Aventures... FREEBIE

I came across Erica Bohrer's Classroom mascot of Pete the Cat and thought it was fabulous. I purchased all the items and I'm anxiously awaiting my package. Because I have 28 kiddos this year... I thought I'd have 2 bags going. One bag would be returned on Monday and shared. The other on Friday. Over the summer, I purchased Clifford books and characters from Kohl's for $5 each. So... I realized that I had other bag already to go... just needed a travel log. Viola!

If you're a Pete the Cat fan... be sure to check out Erica's work... it's adorable!!

Bathroom Pass... a title only a teacher could post!

It's true... I'm posting about the classroom bathroom pass... only because the idea was shared with me by my darling friend a couple years ago. I have used it ever since. I know longer hear, "Mrs. Evans can I use the bathroom?" My students know if it is an emergency, they have the pass out the door. It's tiny and cute and saves me answering 'that' question dozens of time each day. Only a teacher would appreciate this post... ;)

I thanked DeeDee earlier this summer (after our Book Party regarding Debbie Diller's math station book) for inviting me in on the fun and introducing me to a great resource. I am so excited to start a new adventure with stations this year. It was actually exciting to fill the boxes today! Thanks again, DeeDee!

The Classroom Set Up Race

Our district cut 2 days from our teacher preparation to save money...

crazy thing is... everyone was at school anyway to prepared the home away from home for our new kiddos. Teachers are sick that way ;)

It has been hot and sweaty and tons of fun to set things up again.

I stepped back in time about 20 years to create the cinderblock bookshelf to house my chapter books ... my kids couldn't understand how these could work in a real house. As you can see my kids are young... they haven't experience the college life yet ;)
It's always hard to think sleeping in, lazy days and sunshine afternoons are coming to an end, however, once I get back to the gang and classroom ... I have to admit, butterflies start fluttering in my tummy too!

Get To Know You Necklace...FREEBIE

I've seen this idea on spots all around the blog sphere and wanted to create a version for my little kiddos. I purchased my beads and string at Walmart. I made my version for an example and my second grade daughter (soon to be my student ;) was dying to make one... she has to wait for the rest of the class though... right!?! I'd love to hear about your versions.

Back to School Centers

I am grateful for the moments when I find a little umph... because there are days (like today) that I am running on Diet Coke completely! I am the cubmaster in my neighborhood and tonight was our Pinewood Derby. We had a fantastic time and a great turn out... however... this event has been on my plate for the past few days... with school on the back burner (not a great idea for my last week of summer ;)

After arriving home and storing the derby decorations and materials... I headed over to my school pile (that continually grows ;) and was so relieved to find the Back to School centers copied, cut and laminate all tucked nicely into the envelope. Maybe I'm not too far behind. Thank you to so many of you that have purchased this Back to School Centers and Back to School Literacy Kits from my TpT store. I am so excited to get them going in my classroom and hope you are too.

For those of you on the final countdown to school... like myself... enjoy your free moments and don't neglect those quick naps in the upcoming days :)

I'm Your Gingerbread Man!

While shopping solo on Saturday with my Diet Coke in hand (both so delightful)...
I visited Barnes and Noble to look for a new book or two. I came across this delightful treasure from Laura Murray titled The Gingerbread Man Loose at the School.

I am so excited to share it with my brand new kiddos AND it gave me a new spin on the first day of school... so needless to say... I have created a gingerbread man hunt throughout the school (practicing hallway behavior and familiarizing them to the school building and help). They'll visit the gym, lunchroom, art and music room, secretary, nurse, principal and more. Afterwards we'll complete classroom and individual glyphs, I Have; Who Has cards... personalized with my student's names, and a couple more activities. Little Debbie makes cute, packaged gingerbread men cookies that will be a sweet treat following our hunt.

I'm slowing down these last few days of summer... so you could probably catch me, however... you can't catch him... he's the gingerbread man!

Creative Writing FREEBIE

I can't believe how quickly school is coming... or how quickly summer is going!

The butterflies are starting to settle in my tummy.

I created this little booklet to encourage my new 2nd graders to getting writing. Sometimes silly starters make it easier to jump into the writing mode.

How soon do you start your kiddos writing? ... I'd love to hear your ideas ;)

Teaching TImes Tables

Recently, I was asked about teaching times tables to young students. In 2nd grade we DO help our young ones understand the operation of multiplication with LOTS of manipulatives. After direct and guided instruction, I have found the best way for them to practice is with each other. Friends can be the great teachers! Once I know that my students understand the concept or multiplication... I encourage their practice time to be fun, exciting and interactive. I created these one page math games for each multiple 1-12. They are darling printed in color, however, they look terrific on bright cardstock and laminated for duriblity. The only manips they need are dice, chips and spinners.

My kids enjoy playing them at school and at home with siblings and parents.
Math CAN be fun! :)

Each game board is $1... however...

(and then 30% off between Aug 1-6)
I hope these help your kiddos!
