A Long Process

Friday could NOT have come soon enough for me, my co-workers, students etc. We have had NONE STOP rain (for weeks) which boils down to long, dark, crazy days. "Inside recess" should not be called 'recess'... it's just chaos moved inside... anyways... we did enjoy a gorgeous, sunshine, 70 degree today in Utah and my bucket is now full. I enjoyed as much of it as I could on the soccer field, in the yard and playing with the kids.... Only 9 more days :)

ANYWAYS... Nearly 2 years ago, I submitted a book to Scholastic... last spring I received a call that they wanted to purchase it and planned to have it out in June of 2011. (Patience is not my middle name... I tend to dive in and get things done quickly...) So with many projects and my classroom and motherhood etc... June 2011 snuck up on me. I pulled into the driveway Friday and saw a red and white box on my doorstep... with my name on it... and I had not placed an order... woot! woot! Scholastic sent me a few copies of the book to share with my friends. So... my first giveaway... 1 entry for each:

Love your Math activities. New idea...hmmm, kids always seem to struggle with problem solving. How about problem solving with story problems?

I follow your blog and am a follower of your TPT store. I love your things, especially the reading things for Houghton Mifflin. I have several of your math games made and I use them in my classroom each day. My kiddos love them and they learn while playing. What a bonus. When is the book going on sale through Scholastic? Let us know.

Wow! What an honor to finally get a book published! Congrats! Thank you for sharing so much with us. Your activities are great.
I had thought about problem solving too as an idea. Or maybe you could do something more with measurement. I'm doing a monster theme this year, so something with cute, friendly monsters?

I've been waiting for this book to come out ever since you told us about it in one of the classes I took with you in it! I'm so happy for you!

My idea is to create posters guiding students through different methods of adding and/or subtracting double digit problems.

Again, congrats! I also followed you on TPT and here.

mary said...

Congratulations on publishing your book! My idea, story problems, a poster to explain the process and story problems for math journals.
Thanks again!

I have been following your blog for quite some time now. All of your "cutesy" learning activities have completely filled my GoogleDocs! :) I also follow your TpT store and am completely obsessed with your Pig Math system. Thank you for all of your great ideas and CONGRATS on your book. What an accomplishment! I can't wait to get my hands on a copy.

Ms. Male said...

Oh, and for a math idea. A BIG struggle we see in 2nd grade here is with word problems. They have a really hard time deciding if they should add or subtract. So maybe something that deals with those "key words" we find in the problems?

I follow you on your blog and TpT! I can't wait to get my hands on your book! Congratulations
